Skiing and snowboarding is getting better each day

The ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area are really getting excitied.  The snow is falling as we type! We have received has been substantial and we are expecting another few feet of powder!  Great for the Holidays!

Per the news the roads have not been great. During commute Chains have been required on most of the higher elevations. So be prepared. Bring extra clothes, a blanket and water in your car just in case the conditions get too bad.

Most resorts are not at full capasity, however they are opening new runs each day.

Homewood is looking good as of the reports this morning.

The snow is very full of water, it does get a little icy in the evenings. That is good for the water content for our dry area.

It has been in the mid 30's and low 40's during the day and in the teens at night.

The Snow is here and so are some great values

Hi, Everyone;

Sorry for the delays we were at a trade show getting all the skinny of great valued packages and ski scoop.

The snow when we came back to Lake Tahoe is on the ground and they are still making snow.  In the morning it is a little crunchy and ice due to the temp being in the teens at night. Mid morning, after some grooming it isnt too bad.

My ski contacts in Mammoth and Colorado are both excited about the snow they have received. Should be fair to Good for Christmas holiday season.

We havent seen too much action on the mountain, so the lines are very short.

Presidents Day Weekend is getting limited on accommodations that are affordable.

As soon as we get over the flu, here in the office we are going to be adding podcast to this blog.

One of the best packages we found is as follows:

The skiing is not Great But it is here!

As I look out the window here in the office, I see the the snow on the mountains, not enought to get real excited but enough to keep thinking snow. Below is what the blogger at Heavenly has to say.

The West Coast’s largest snowmaking system has been operating day and night in order to provide you with the most terrain and best snow surface conditions in Tahoe. However, with only one run open, terrain is limited. We will primarily be skiing on riding on Orion, our quintessential Nevada cruiser. Measuring 5,230 feet in length, it’s one of the longest trails in the basin. Snowmaking has shifted to lower Comet as we look to open a second run.

You can access the mountain through the Gondola today. We have shuttle buses running from the California Lodge to the Gondola, so park and ride! Ski school will be offering beginner classes ONLY out of the Gondola location. Private lessons are for level 5 (able to make wide track parallel turns) skiers and above. The Umbrella Bar, Adventure Peak Grill and East Peak Lodge will all be open.

With limited terrain, it is important that everyone knows and follows the Skier’s Responsibility Code. The code will be strictly enforced – reckless skiers and snowboarders WILL lose their tickets or passes.

Packages for the season are starting to sell out. Group packages are strong this year to save up to 40% on you ski adventure.

It's getting better

The snow is starting to come more consistantly. Two resorts will be open this week. Mammoth is open now one run, and Boreal will open on Friday.

Per the Resort they have made over 5 inches and mother nature has added almost  7 inches.  The slopes will be crowded, but we will take what we can.

A groups of students from Davis is trying to get a group together for December 16-18, call us if you are interested.

University of Nevada Reno Ski Swap was last weekend and it was a lot of fun. many of you went home with great bargains.

Chirstmas is just around the corner, and many people are finding that Air Fares to our area are not great, however, there are many smaller ski resorts in many locations that we can find and get bargains for you.  We have packages in Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Whistler, all of California, Nevada and many other places.  We just go an email from Austria.  Prices are great but your dollar will not go far in the restaurants etc, due to the exchange rates.

If the snow is not what you are hoping for dont let that discourage you. The hotels in Reno and Lake Tahoe are have great new Shows. Many of them are really affordable.  We have two for one coupons for some, when you purchase a package from us.

My source in Colorado, said to me on the phone that the Winter season is on hold there. Per our conversation, it was in the 70's over the weekend. Better for mountain biking. Hiking, or spa treatments.

We hired a new Ski Specialsit Angela. She keeps up to date on the gound of snow conditions. She is on a local Ski Patrol, and has personal experiences of ski conditions.

Got to run!

Think Snow

It's getting better my friends

I have had several phone calls about the skiing situation. Well I have great news.

Mammoth is now open and Boreal will be opening Friday. The snow is fair, about one foot on selected runs.  Most of it is Man made snow. But that is ok, it is time to get ready for a great seasons.

I have a great package for February 23-27th for a ski club if you want it.  I have a club that cancelled so the offer is open to you all.  $120  per person per day double occupancy in Lake Tahoe with Lift tickets included.  WOW that is great.

First come first serve.

Christmas is just around the corner. Santa is in the Mall and the show is Reno and Lake Tahoe are bustling with great things to do.

Come and enjoy!

The snow is still coming!

The clouds are rolling in and the crews up on the Gondola are reporting more snow. It’s just a dusting up there, but if you’re thinking this winter will be like last winter, early indications say something very different. The forecast is calling for storms on Tuesday and Wednesday that could bring as much A FOOT of snow to the higher elevations! If you’re waiting to buy your ski packages let us know as soon as possible or, you might miss out! Book it now so you’re ready to hit it when we open!

New things are happening

It has been snowing in the Lake Tahoe area the last few days. However not enough to go skiing yet!

There was enough snow to have to put chains on the car to move around.

Heavenly
The new Olympic Express detachable-quad chairlift provides high-speed access to Olympic Downhill, three new trails and Nevada Woods – home to some of the best tree skiing in North America – letting guests more easily experience a part of the mountain that has been underutilized due to the existing fixed-grip lift. Olympic Express also gives guests accessing the resort from Heavenly’s Stagecoach or Boulder Lodge a quicker route to Dipper Express, Comet Express and East Peak Lodge..

When complete for its anticipated December 7, 2007 opening, Olympic Express will be 3,533 feet long with an 866-foot vertical rise. The high-speed lift will move 1,000 feet per minute with a 2,400 person capacity per hour. The former two-person Olympic chair ride took approximately 11 minutes, compared to just three-and-a-half minutes for the new Olympic Express, enabling more ski time and less time spent on a slow-moving chair.

Heavenly will also unveil three new trails off of Olympic Express. Cloud Nine is an intermediatelevel groomed trail that is perfect for wide-open cruising. Heavenly strategically thinned the trees on the other two trails to offer different levels of tree-skiing experiences. The Pines is a groomed, intermediate-level trail that allows skiers and riders to cruise around islands of beautiful western white pines. Bohemian Grove ratchets up the intensity one level. This advanced, gladed run is steeper, ungroomed and offers a more natural tree-skiing feel. For the expert skier or rider Nevada Woods is the all-natural, full-tilt tree skiing that made this area a local legend.

A fourth trail, called Nova, is an intermediate-level trail that will run along the Dipper Express chair line to connect Orion to the base of Dipper Express, bypassing the bottom of Orion and the guests heading to Comet Express and East Peak Lodge. The four new trails give Heavenly a total of 95 runs.

Also new this winter will be the Heavenly Sky Flyer at Adventure Peak. This elevated zip line cable ride will take guests on a 50-mile-an-hour thrill ride from the top of Tamarack Express back to the top of the Gondola, a vertical drop of 525 feet. At 3,100 feet, the Heavenly Sky Flyer will be the longest zip line in the lower 48 U.S. states.

Heavenly has continued its commitment to offering Lake Tahoe's finest corduroy with four new low-emission Prinoth 350 groomers and one new, state-of-the-art PistenBully 600 ultra-low-emission snow groomer. Numbering 16, Heavenly maintains its claim to the largest fleet of Prinoth 350s in North America.

Heavenly has also purchased 11 more Snow Machines, Inc. fully-automated fan guns. These fan guns will be placed on elevated towers in strategically-selected locations to provide a more consistent, quality snow coverage. Additionally, Heavenly has retrofitted many of its air/water snowmaking guns to be more energy efficient while also making larger quantities of snow in warmer temperatures. The combination of grooming expertise and snowmaking capacity ensure that Heavenly’s guests are always skiing or riding on the finest snow surface conditions Lake Tahoe has to offer.

Most of the Resorts will have new improvements and as soon as we know I will let you in on the excitement.

Bears block the road

It is a very common sight this year seeing bears on the roads. A mother Bear and her cubs have been spotted on highway 89 in Lake Tahoe several times in the past week.  Be on the lookout if you are coming to our area.

The snow is still on the very tops of the pikes. Just keep thinking snow so we can get an early start on our winter activities.

We are still taking reservations for the Holiday dates! Book early to be sure you have a fair price on your accommodations.
